Itāļu klasiskās mūzikas koncertstāsts "UN DIEVS...RADĪJA SIEVIETI"

AND GOD... CREATED WOMAN

The passions of verismo and unheard instrumental works in an Italian classical music concert performance at the Small Guild.

The Classical Music Guild “Euterpe” invites you to the Italian veristic music concert performance "AND GOD... CREATED WOMAN" on May 22 at 7:00 PM at the Small Guild. The title of the concert program refers to Roger Vadim's famous French romantic drama " Et Dieu... créa la femme," which made French actress Brigitte Bardot a film legend and an icon.

The concert will feature soprano Anta Jankovska, Italian tenor Nico Franchini, flutist Dita Krenberga, harpist Dārta Tisenkopfa-Muselli, and pianist Rihards Plešanovs. The narrator is Orests Silabriedis, and Ivars Vācers is the lighting director.

A woman in the modern world is admirable flexible in the ways to experience her "femininity" She can be in a relationship or single, become a wife, raise children, or, conversely, live solely for herself. She can mow the lawn, clean the house, cook, or defend a PhD thesis and advance in her career. A woman can possess strong leadership qualities or be an introvert, living in the silent unity with herself. It hasn't always been this way, and it is still not everywhere this way, but right now, as a society, we're learning to allow women to live their lives in a variety of ways, and that's always and under any circumstances feminine. The value and essence of a woman lie not in what she achieves or what she does: it lies in the fact that she is a woman.

The musical center of our program will be a secular woman of Italian melodrama and a delicate and complex world of her feelings, both in interaction with her eternal antagonist – male, and on her own. "I have never seen such a woman..." sings the Chevalier de Grieux, just stared at the face of the beautiful Manon Lescaut in the central square of Amiens. If there is any composer who has devoted adoring admiration and the most beautiful pages of music to women throughout his creative career, it is undoubtedly Giacomo Puccini, the most famous representative of Italian verismo. Of the twelve operas he composed, eight bear female names. All these opera heroines, although reflecting different female archetypes, are strong, passionate, capable of self-sacrifice, often defying the dogmas of society and the culture of their time, courageous and thirsty for life—one might even say, "feminists" of their time. But yet, the presence of a man is essential for all these heroines—one way or another, they discover themselves, define their place in life, and discover their destiny, illuminated by the prism of a man.

Along with Puccini's operas, the concert will feature rarely performed instrumental works for flute, harp, and piano by the Italian Romantic composer Saverio Mercadante, Puccini's contemporaries Alfredo Casella and Ottorino Respighi, and the 20th-century composer Nino Rota.

Tickets for the concerts are available at the "Biļešu Paradīze" box offices. For seniors, students, and people with disabilities there are tickets with discounts.

The concert is supported by the Local Government Administration of the city of Riga.
